Like Poetics, you can earn as many as you like, but can only carry 2000.
These can be used to purchase i120 gear in Mor Dhona, and also some items that are a part of the Anima weapon quest at level 60. All the “A Realm Reborn” dungeons, trials, and raids will grant tomestones of Poetics.

As of patch 3.5, there are three main tomestone types. Tomestones: These currencies are the rewards for doing nearly any kind of instanced (and some non-instanced) combat content. The abbreviation “i120” is used to mean “a piece of gear of item level 120”. There are exceptions, but they aren’t particularly common. For simplicity’s sake, you can assume that a higher item level means a stronger item. Exceptions are things like green dungeon drops (the Foestriker’s Tabard, the Battlemage’s set, etc), which will have slightly higher item level than equip level. Most gear prior to level 50 has item level matching its equip level. Item Level: Every piece of gear, yes, even from the very beginning of the game, has an item level. Quickly, I’d like to introduce some terms to you that may not be intuitive, but are going to be thrown around a lot in the level 60 gameplay discussions. Not because those aren’t worthwhile activities – they definitely are! I just want to keep some kind of limit on the content of this guide. This is not a guide for crafting, gathering, roleplaying, housing, or PVP. I’ll be wordy and technical and pedantic, but always in the hopes of helping you fight through that overwhelming sense of “too much to do, /panic”. Here’s a quick summary of how to purchase and upgrade Scaevan Gear. Accessory Upgrade Scaevan Gear – Level 70 ilvl 390 To upgrade Accessories use Illuminati Darkest Gobcoat. To upgrade Armor use Illuminati Tautest Gobtwine. To upgrade Weapons use Illuminati Deepest Gobdip. The upgrade NPC is at the stall across the street.

Purchase and upgrading of Shire Gear is done in Idyllshire, but you probably already know this. Thankfully, later gear involves far less travel for the upgrade. Once there, travel North East along the road to Hyrstmill, at the far NE of the map and speak to Drake who can upgrade your gear. Then take your gear piece, unequipped, and your mats all the way to the North Shroud. Purchase a single Carbontwine for Armor and Weapons, and a single Carboncoat for Accessories. Auriana also has Upgrade Mats under the Other category of her store. Purchase the gear from Auriana at the counter on the upper level. Purchase of Ironworks gear is in Revenant’s Toll, Mor Dhona. The purchase and upgrade NPCs are all at the same counter for the Scaevan Gear. Note: Next time I visit Rhalgr’s Reach, I’ll add the guide to upgrade the level 70 Scaevan gear. There are a few places to find the info, but they are not convenient to refer to. I made this post so that I could easily upgrade my Ironworks and Shire Gear.
